Finished Projekte
Singida Urban and Regional Safe Water Project
The largest project of the Salzburg Singida partnership up to now is the "Singida Urban and Regional Safe Water Project", which is co-financed by the European Union and the Austrian Foreign Ministry. In 2003 it was completed after four year of construction. The goal of this projects was to provide more safe and clean water to a growing urban and rural population in Singida.
As a result daily water production could be increased, water was getting cheaper and cleaner, but the biggest success was the extermination of Cholera. Now at 41 water kiosks clean and cheap water is sold, women donīt have to walk for many hours to collect dirty water from a water whole.
Afforestation and waterprotection
In order to save this water it was necessary to build sanctuaries. Tree nurseries have been constructed to stop erosion, also enclosures to keep animals away. This project was also co-financed by the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
