Sister Cities Salzburg - Singida

History of development

The organization „Sister Cities Salzburg Singida“ (SCSS) exists since 1984. We collaborate with our Tanzanian partner organization „Community Initiatives Promotion Trust Fund“ (CIP Trust), appropriate local authorities and project specific experts. Together we are very successfully in planning and implementing projects to improve lives of the people in Town and Region Singida. The fundamental aim and attitude remains unchanged: To lend a helping hand to our partners in their struggle to overcome poverty and the lack of opportunity. To offer support where it is needed and accepted. In 1986 the formal inaugural meeting with the chairmen of both cities took place in Salzburg’s Schloss Mirabell. The organization was formally founded and the city of Salzburg pledged support for projects in Singida and the necessary organizational infrastructure. Frequent working visits to Singida and Salzburg help to build the understanding and appreciation of the problems and lifestyles of both partners. “Development Aid” soon transformed into a mindset of joint planning and problem solving.

Regional Cooperation

In 1994, the Salzburg Provincial Government (by a resolution of it´s Development aid Committee) founded a regional cooperation with Singida Region. Thus we could expand the existing city partnership Salzburg – Singida into a development aid cooperative for the entire Region Singida (approximately 1 million inhabitants).
Now development efforts could be enlarged efficient and global on this disadvantaged central region of Tanzania. The focuses are school buildings and renovations, advancement of health and social services and adequate supply by drinking water in so far disadvantaged regions
